The SE-50 was the first half-rack multi-effects processor from Boss and was designed with guitarists in mind. The unit is equipped with various effects typical of guitar multi-effects units, such as distortion, chorus, flanger as well as a unique digital vocoder. Additionally, nine of the 28 preset algorithms are dedicated reverb-only effects.
Â
Though the Boss SE-50 was originally introduced as a guitar multi-effects processor, it has gained a large userbase among a variety of harsh EBM bands who use it's pitch shifter effect to process vocals both live and in the studio. The 4-band pitch shifter (patch 112) on the SE-50 has come to define the detuned vocals of a number of electro-industrial acts. Common settings include pitching the top two bands up one to two semitones while detuning the bottom bands by a similar amount.
Â
Users should be aware that presets are stored using an internal watch battery, which has a typical lifespan of under five years. When this power supply fails, all user-defined parameters will revert to factory presets. Replacing the battery will restore the SE-50's ability to save user presets.
